Wetlands play a valuable roll in the ecosystem. These areas create critical habitat for a variety of species, areas needed for breeding and reproduction, and for survival. Wetlands also benefit people by mitigating flooding caused by rain events. Due to development and fragmentation wetlands are decreasing and causing once common species to now be at-risk species.
